Ga Ya Geum Korean Family Restaurant

One fine weekend, my siblings and I had cravings for Korean food! Did a quick Google search and as we didn't really fancy a popular/famous place i.e. squeeze with the weekend crowd, we decided on Gayageum! A homely Korean family restaurant near home that has pretty good reviews :)

A cozy place tucked away in the basement of Bukit Timah Shopping Centre! Don't get it confused with Bukit Timah Plaza like we did HAHA

Big projector screen screening Running Man! :-)

Sausage & Ham Stew with Ramen (Large $37)

The kimchi soup base was slightly spicy but not overwhelming! Simple comfort food at it's best with ramen, sausages, tofu, enoki mushrooms, toppoki, and fresh vegetables :)

Of course, what's Korean food without it's refillable ban chan :)

 Sweet fried boneless chicken ($18)

Gayageum's specialty is it's Korean Fried Chicken! These morsels of goodness comes in 4 flavours: Sweet, Spicy, Soy or Spicy Soy :)

Pretty expensive but there were at least 10 pieces in this dish, so I guess the price is justifiable.

Crispy, sweet exterior and the meat itself was moist and tender! Thumbs up!

Rice cakes in chilli sauce ($8)

This was pretty spicy for me but the rice cakes were SO GOOD AND CHEWY!! Chewiest toppoki I've ever had in SG :)

Ginseng Chicken Soup ($15)

One of the highly recommended dish and perfect for those who are looking for a healthier dish.
Was disappointed though, as the portion is small and I was expecting glutinous rice and chestnuts in it :(

Soup was clear and light on the palate, would prefer a stronger Ginseng taste.

Seafood & Spring Onion Pancake ($13)

Crispy edges and packed with ingredients! Wonderfully soft inside and wasn't floury at all :)

Pork + Marinated Chicken ($35)

Initially we thought we would be BBQ-ing these meat ourselves as the menu showed pictures of uncooked meat. So this came as a surprise!

This was average though, the sweet sauce was slightly overpowering.

Run by a Korean couple, Gayageum is a place that serves authentic Korean cuisine in a quiet and cozy setting. Definitely a place to bring your family and friends for good and hearty comfort food :)
